So our old boss from Audubon, Mister Doug Taylor was in town this past weekend... and what a lovely weekend it was! It was so surreal seeing him here. I spent the first few months in Oz looking around as I walked the city, always half expecting to bump into someone from Boston, or doing a double take at a lookalike... and finally, just as my mind has trained itself not to do this.... I am sitting across the table from Dougie, utterly mind boggled that he is actual HERE.
It was a lovely weekend. The first night Fuller and I met Doug and his friend Brendan downtown and did a bit of a pub crawl (its the best we could provide in the way of a tour of Sydney on a Thursday evening). So, happy to show off how hip we are, we embark on a trek to what we have deemed the bars that Doug MUST SEE. Of course, I get mixed up and instead of going to this really fun dance place with a chill crowd, I lead us next door to teeny bopper hipster paradise, literally a sea of flannel tops, tight jeans, plastic sunglasses, and heinous haircuts. We shuffled awkwardly to the corner where we played Buck Hunter (plus!!!) for the duration of one very uncomfortable drink.
So when we fled, Doug promptly stopped in a convenience store and bought us four pairs of said plastic sunglasses, because as we had learned the hard way, THATS what the kids are doing these days.
so these are some images from my film camera that i'd forgotten about until i developed them the other day... 50 dollars later and here are the pics for your viewing pleasure....
the first shot is tamarama beach at dusk on one of my coastal walks. next pic was from a bus, shot of clouds out the window (most likely in coogee). next shot is a rock formation along the coastal walk from when we lived in bondi. next shot is of the house across the street from our very first (and very disastrous) bondi apartment. lastly is a shot of the lovely ms. schmitt sitting on bondi beach.
can't wait to be back there for summer.
At work and completely bored out of my mind, so I figured I’d blog a bit so as to divert attention away from the meaningless stuff I’ve been looking up online for the past SIX hours.
We moved offices on Monday and I've stayed behind at the old office to answer phones while everyone else moved into the new space. New office phones still aren’t hooked up. So here I’m sitting in a half empty, freezing cold office with nothing to do. Oh what fun. One co-worker, Cez, is luckily here with me and we’ve been chatting throughout the day, mostly whining about our lack of drive and boredom. This has helped the minutes pass by a bit quicker.
I’m meant to go check out an apartment tonight as I’m still mooching off Karen and Rob, but the thought of an eight o’clock meet and greet with potential new roommates sounds terrible right now. May not be going. I’ve changed my mind about 20 times over the last three weeks concerning where and when would be best to move, house share versus 1 bedroom, beach vs. city, etc etc. I don’t know what I’m doing, but am hoping at some point the stars will align and I’ll magically find a new home exerting as little effort on my part as possible.
My brilliant new plan is to take a day trip out of Sydney, because in these past 6 months I still have not left the city. So sad. I spent all of yesterday researching day trips out of Sydney, so I’m going to rent a car either this weekend or next and Lara and I are going to be country bumpkins nestled by a fire in some log cabin in the Blue Mountains. She does not know this plan yet, but I will be forcing her to participate in golfing, horse back riding and hiking if all goes as I’m scheming. I think it would be entertaining to make this a 10 person journey, but am unsure of my capabilities to convince that many people to come along….we shall see….Below is Leura Lodge and Blue Mountain photos where we may be staying...
What else….Hopefully we will have some fun new pics to post soon as Mr. Douglas Taylor is visiting Sydney shortly and I’m quite excited to grab some drinks with our dearly missed Kiwi Audubon Circle Manager.
Will try and blog again soon. LARA F
I've got nothing to show these weeks as far as doing anything with my spare time. However, back in Hampden things seem to be just heating up. I've seemingly underestimated my dad's yen for pushing dirt around, because by the looks of the pictures my mom's been sending me he's may soon go blind and grow long, paddle-like claws. Meanwhile, as he swoons over his rentals in the 'Tool Corral' of Home Depot, there's work above in the trees.
Seems to me, the only thing better than having all your favorite people together in one place is having that place be home- and looking better than you even remember it. (Except for that time we ice skated on the frozen cesspool on the lawn that December- Winter Wonderland!)
